Rowlands Castle station may yet house museum

PLANS to convert part of Rowlands Castle railway station into a museum are back on track, according to members of an East Hampshire group.

And the building may yet house the model railway which the Rowlands Castle Heritage Centre (RHCH) acquired last year for around £8,000.

RCHC members Malcolm Smith and Kevin Connell updated the East Hampshire Community Rail Partnership Stakeholder Group on the project during a meeting in Petersfield.

The RCHC has long wanted to create a museum in the station house but was forced to put the project on hold due to uncertainty over who would win the franchise for the South West Trains area.

The duo confirmed the RCHC will be seeking a lease from winning Chinese firm MTR once its franchise begins later this month.

The stakeholder group also heard the South Downs National Park Authority is interested in putting up an interpretation board on the northbound platform from Havant.
